Summer Programs 2019

Summer Intensive Program

The Academy of Dance offers a rigorous summer intensive program for beginning through advanced dancers. Our schedule and courses of study are similar to the offerings of stay-away summer intensives but are available at a fraction of the cost. Each program culminates in a showcase on the last Friday of the workshop.

Our summer intensives feature classes in classical technique, Pilates-based conditioning, pointe work, jazz, character, improvisation, contemporary, and more. Faculty include Naomi Hanvey, Lesley Gray, Phaedra Jarrett, Sara Wright, Sabrita Cohen, and Heather Portue. Faculty will also give lectures on various dance-related topics and participate in Q&A sessions with students during the lunch hour.

This year we are pleased to be hosting physical therapist and former dancer Sara Talbot in an injury prevention screening. This unique clinic will give dancers insight into how their own bodies work, what their individual strengths and weaknesses are, how they can strengthen their bodies against the injuries they are most susceptible to, and how they can treat injuries when they occur. Students may sign up for the injury screening separately or attend as part of the Intermediate or Advanced intensive program.
